Birth Doula

"A doula is a non-medical though essential part of the birth team who offers physical, emotional, informational and sometimes spiritual support."

A doula is someone who helps you throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. As a doula I do not offer medical advice, perform any medical treatments or deliver your baby. I work with your provider and birth team to ensure that you are heard and that you are able to labor and deliver your baby in a safe way, but in the way you are wanting.

Whether you are having a hospital, birth center or home birth, I'm the gal to support you! I service Cache Valley, Utah, and support unmedicated vaginal, medicated vaginal, VBAC, and c-section births.

Benefits of a Doula

There are so many benefits of having a doula. Evidence shows that "people who received continuous support were more likely to have spontaneous vaginal births and less likely to have any pain medication, epidurals, negative feelings about childbirth, vacuum or forceps-assisted births, and Cesareans. In addition, their labors were shorter by about 40 minutes and their babies were less likely to have low apgar scores at birth. There is a smaller amount of evidence that doula support in labor can lower postpartum depression in mothers. There is no evidence for negative consequences to continuous labor support (https://evidencebasedbirth.com/the-evidence-for-doulas/).

What Being a Doula Means to Me

Being a doula is one of the most sacred and personal parts of my life. To be invited into such an intimate, vulnerable, and transformative time is a true honor, one I never take lightly. Birth is both powerful and tender, and there is nothing like watching a woman do something so incredibly hard while reaching for her goals and discovering her own strength.

Sometimes I'm there in the very best moments, celebrating pure joy, and other times I have the privilege of holding mothers through deep challenges and heartache. Both are equally sacred. My commitment is always to create a safe space where women feel supported, deeply cared for, and empowered to make the choices that are best for them.

The bond I form with my clients is unlike anything else. I carry your stories with me, and love you deeply. Supporting women in birth and motherhood isn't just something I do, it's a calling that continues to shape me in the most beautiful ways.
